Centacare Evolve Housing has over 1,000 social housing properties providing secure, affordable housing for people on low incomes. Some properties are owned by us and others are managed on behalf of Housing Tasmania. Rent for these properties is set at 25% of household income plus Commonwealth Rent Assistance, or independently assessed market rent, whichever is lower - see the page 'How we set rent' for further details.
Applications for all social and public housing in Tasmania are managed through a central 'front door' system called Housing Connect. When we have available properties we allocate them from that central waiting list. Centacare Evolve Housings owns or manages approximately 500 Affordable Housing properties. Affordable Housing offers a secure housing alternative for low-to-moderate income households who cannot afford private market rents.
Rent for these properties is set at a percentage of market rent, normally at or below 80%, as assessed by independent market evaluation. Find out more on the page 'How we set rent'.

Centacare Evolve Housing is an active supporter of the Tasmanian Government's Rapid Rehousing initiatives.
Rapid Rehousing provides housing assistance to people in need including those affected by family violence, clients exiting Mental Health Services inpatient units and prisoners exiting Tasmanian Prison Services.
Rapid Rehousing provides transitional accommodation (leases up to 12 months) at subsidised rent.
The initiative is designed to assist vulnerable people to access safe and affordable housing while they transition to independent living.
It is a partnership between the Tasmanian Government, registered Community Housing Providers and Housing Connect.

Centacare Evolve Housing manages 19 community tenancies on behalf of Housing Tasmania. These properties are used as transitional accommodation for people experiencing acute homelessness or domestic violence crises. Properties are allocated from the Housing Connect waiting list on short term leases while long term accommodation is being sourced. Tenants using Transitional Housing have access to a Housing Connect support worker who can assist in managing some of the immediate needs they may have, with a view to identifying longer term housing options.
Centacare Evolve Housing manages a number of properties statewide as part of the Private Rental Incentives pilot program. This is funded under Tasmania’s Affordable Housing Action Plan 2015-2019 and administered by Housing Tasmania to help low income Tasmanians access the private rental market.
Incentives are offered to property owners to encourage them to make their private rental properties available and affordable to low income households. Properties are needed that are suitable for singles, couples or families across Tasmania.
